M. Scott Taylor

Professor of Economics, University of Calgary

M. Scott Taylor is a Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Calgary, Past President of the Canadian Economics Association, and Director of the Kuehne Center for Sustainable Trade & Logistics at the University of Zurich (2023/24). He is a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), a Fellow of the Canadian Economics Association, and a Fellow of the Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics.

Taylor’s research focuses on the interplay between international trade, natural resources, and the environment, employing innovative methods to address complex economic questions. His work has explored topics ranging from the environmental impacts of global trade to the historical overuse of resources, including the collapse of Easter Island and the near-extinction of North American bison.

His publications have appeared in leading journals such as the American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, and Review of Economic Studies. Prior to joining the University of Calgary, Taylor held academic positions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of British Columbia.
