Emma Smith is an Assistant Professor at Georgetown University, where she conducts research in development economics with a focus on refugees, migration, and social norms. Emma often works in collaboration with humanitarian organizations, and her research has looked at barriers to mental health care-seeking, effectiveness of shelter interventions, and access to remote work opportunities. She is a co-founder of the Syrian Refugee Life Study, a multi-year longitudinal data collection effort. Emma received her PhD in Public Policy (Economics Track) from Harvard University, and a B.A. in Economics and Middle Eastern Studies from Wellesley College.
