

Michelle Escobar Carías

Michelle Escobar Carías, a native of Honduras, is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne’s Department of Economics. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the University of Melbourne’s Gender Lab, and an affiliate with the Life Course Centre and the Centre for Market Design.
Escobar has several ongoing research projects in Pakistan, Indonesia and Fiji. Her work combines both natural experiments and randomized controlled trials, mainly in developing countries, to study topics such as the effects of psychotherapy on psychological resilience, sleep deprivation, and intimate partner violence, and the effects of sleep and temperature on decision-making. Her research has been published in journals across disciplines including the Economic Journal, Health Economics, AEA Papers and Proceedings, BMC Psychology and Environment International, and covered by The Sunday Times (London), the Economic Observatory, and ABC Radio.
